Ghost Signs in Seattle

Photograph of Seattle Ghost Sign by Susan Sheldon NolenThis area of Seattle has some lovely Ghost Signs.  Here is one for Buttnick MFG.CO. The building was created for the Brunswick Balke Colander Company whose name completely hides their product of billiards equipment. The building replaced two other building where once  stood a rather seedy hotel and apparently a rowdy saloon. Harry Buttnick began manufacturing water-repellent for the men’s clothing. Men who desperately needed to stay dry during their mad rush for gold in the Klondike. I’m so glad the old signs have never been painted over!

About susan sheldon nolen

It’s rare to catch me without coffee, a form of camera, or my beloved wire fox terriers. I love the history, the art, and it’s a massive part of my life, as I either paint, write, or get interrupted by my dogs, reminding me of the real world. I hope you enjoy your time here. It’s such a privilege to have readers.
