Doors- A back door to God’s House

cathedralshs

I had been mooching around the great cathedral of Rochester and found in the back this small door. It’s barely five foot high. What impressed me about this little door, was not the carved peak of the door, but the stonework required to make the opening for the door. Quite a bit of planning. It’s a great little door, very solid and the iron hinges are just stunning. Wouldn’t mind this as my back door!

About susan sheldon nolen

It’s rare to catch me without coffee, a form of camera, or my beloved wire fox terriers. I love the history, the art, and it’s a massive part of my life, as I either paint, write, or get interrupted by my dogs, reminding me of the real world. I hope you enjoy your time here. It’s such a privilege to have readers.

  1. I love this door–and the idea that it was painstakingly created–as a metaphor. I’ve been through it often, as an introvert and contrarian who has trouble using God’s front door.

Did you notice that in order to get in G-d house you need a key to get in, unless the door is always open , nevertheless it has no handle.

    I’d have to duck 9″ every time…. 🙂

  4. I just love the shape, Susan – and I agree with you about the hinges!

what an interesting and delightful door! Wouldn’t it be an amusing thought if you used as a dog door for teddy?:D
