Black and White #24 Old Letters and Pen

Susan Nolen Logo

I just realised that I should include my black and white photo. It’s my business card logo and my WordPress header/logo. It’s a shot of items on my desk, taken late at night. I wanted something for my blog to capture my life’s themes, writing, dogs, London,  a deep appreciation for history and what I can learn from it. My letter holder is from Germany 1922. It’s extremely heavy with a bronze Wire Fox Terrier on a Green black marble base. The letters are from a day gone by.  My fountain pen, I use daily. I love the tactile flow of ink upon a page. I had a little Ikea desk lamp and angled it over the items as I found them. Took a chance and here is the result.  Untouched and raw.

About susan sheldon nolen

It’s rare to catch me without coffee, a form of camera, or my beloved wire fox terriers. I love the history, the art, and it’s a massive part of my life, as I either paint, write, or get interrupted by my dogs, reminding me of the real world. I hope you enjoy your time here. It’s such a privilege to have readers.

I like this image, Susan, there’s a lot in it, and the shadows give it, to me, a feeling of someone’s study. When I say someone, I mean Agatha Christie. And the shadows give it just an edge of mystery.

    • Hi Tom! Many thanks. It was really late at night and yes it needs a mystery….cigarette idly burning in an ashtray….a knock at the door…footsteps..the light goes out…

      🙂

I'd love to hear your thoughts!
